Working Dog Practitioner Program
The program was developed by the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine and the Working Dog Center. The Penn Vet Working Dog Center specializes in performance medicine and developed the Working Dog Practitioner Program for veterinarians who are committed to providing the most advanced care for their working and performance dog patients and their handlers.
Our very own Dr. Kimberly Stewart of College Hills Veterinary Hospital became the first DVM to complete the rigorous coursework, internship, and observation hours, required capstone project, and the 3-day hands-on course to earn her certification as a Working Dog Practitioner.
Dr. Stewart’s love for working dogs, especially Search and Rescue Canines, led her to pursue this certification. Dr. Stewart is also a human remains detection dog handler and has worked alongside her Labrador Retriever, Seamus, on Search Dog Network in the state of Texas since 2018, bringing the lost and missing home. She has also received the 2024 Honorary and Distinguished Alumni Award from The Ohio State University in recognition of her work.
